Supervision

Speech and Language Therapists & Speech and Language Therapy Assistants

Supervision is an important part of any therapists development and is recommended by the RCSLT and HCPC as part of on-going professional development.

About Charlotte

I have been working in Early Years and Mainstream Settings across a variety of specialisms. I worked in the NHS for 10 years before moving into independent practice and creating my own business.

While I am not able to give you the answers, I will facilitate you to problem solve and reflect in order to come to your own solutions.

I have received training from the Intandem approach and have experience supporting therapists throughout my working career to reflect on their own practice in line with the RCSLT guidelines "Information for Supervision" (2017).

I receive my own supervision for clinical practice and supervision practice to ensure that I am offering the highest standards of services to you.

What will supervision with me look like?

I can offer you:

  • An open and relaxed safe space to reflect on your practice.

  • A non-judgemental space where you can bring what you like to supervision.

  • An open and honest discussion where I will challenge you if I feel that you practice is unethical, unsafe or outside of the score of practice.

  • Respect of your own views and opinions, even if those are different from my own.

  • Questions which are designed to help you reflect, rather than offering solutions.

  • Confidentiality. I keep safe and secure records and uphold all confidentiality.

  • Openness when you wish to give me feedback. We can then discuss any changes which are required in order to meet your supervision needs.

  • Commitment to you and our working relationship with reviewing of our contract and honest feedback.

  • Sharing my own experiences when required. But also be honest when I do not have experience in an area we are discussing and support you to identify an adequate avenue of support.

My expectations

As a supervisee you will be expected to:

  • prepare for sessions and bring areas to discuss

  • be open and honest in discussions

  • take responsibility for your own learning outside of our sessions

  • protect the time we have booked for supervision

  • keep your own records of discussions, learning points, reflections and further support or discussion which is required in the future. This can all be logged as part of your CPD hours.

Record keeping

With your consent I will keep minimal records regarding discussions that we have in supervision. This will include the date of the session, times, format in which it took place, your contact details and some basic notes to remind me of any discussion which has taken place, themes and outcomes we have agreed.

If our contract is terminated then records will be kept for 6 years to adhere to HCPC regulations.

Business Introduction

Thinking of starting in independent practice or taking on an associate?

Starting in independent practice can be a daunting process. Where to start? Who to speak to? What do you need to do? It is a challenge, but I am happy to help you along the way. Having done it myself I can support you in making decisions regarding your new practice. Would you like to be self-employed? A limited company? What will the ethos of your company be? How will you price sessions? Lots of questions with limitless answers.

I can offer you supervision sessions where you can focus on your next steps, your business and how you would like to set it up. I have a checklists which I have created to help you through these steps and documents to help with financing and planning for your business.

If this is something you wish to discuss then please contact me.
