Supervision

Speech and Language Therapists & Speech and Language Therapy Assistants

Supervision is vital to professional development aand is recommended by the RCSLT and HCPC as part of on-going practice.

My elevator pitch to you...

Choosing a supervisor can be a daunting prospect - we've all had supervisors who we click with and those who we don't. That's human nature and that's okay!

I offer a warm, reflective space for speech and language therapists and assistants to explore their practice, gain clarity, and grow with confidence. To make sure we fit I provide all prospective supervisee's a free 20 minute video call so we can get to know each other.

Like everyone I try my best to keep up to date in evidence-based frameworks, but I understand that is hard with working and general day to day life. I will do my best offer support you to reflect within this evidence base and where appropriate through my own experiences.

My aim is for supervision to be collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your evolving needs; whether you're newly qualified, experienced, or stepping into independent practice. Whether you need a 50 minute offload or to delve deep into a case which has you puzzled, a discussion around a bit of CPD you have read, support with writing a proposal or report, or just a general discussion around your practice I am here to help you along the way. I can't promise I will have an answer, but I will do my upmost to support you to reflect on any given situation and come to the best next step for you.

About me

My name is Charlotte Hartwell and I have been a speech and language therapist for nearly 15 years, including 10 years in NHS roles across diverse settings and nearly 5 years in independent practice.

My clinical skills are mainly in early years and mainstream ages working with children with a variety of clinical areas. I have worked both within mainstream settings as a mainstream therapist and in specialist units and in early years clinics.

I moved to Devon in 2021 and started up my own independent practice where I work both directly for individual families in schools and home environments as well as holding school contracts and running training both through my contracts and the ELKLAN Speech and Language Support 5-11 years course.

I have been trained in the In Tandem supervision framework and follow the RCSLT's 'Information for Supervision' guidance. I also participate in my own clinical and peer supervision to maintain high standards.

What will supervision with me look like?

I offer a reflective, supportive space to explore your practice, providing a non-judgmental environment where you can bring your ideas and challenges.

I respect your views, even when they differ from mine, and use questions to support reflection rather than prescribe solutions.

Our sessions are grounded in open, honest dialogue, including feedback where appropriate, with confidentiality upheld through secure record-keeping.

I’m also committed to regularly reviewing our supervision agreement and adapting our work together as your needs evolve.

My expectations from you

Supervisees are encouraged to come prepared with topics or reflections for each session.

A willingness to be open, honest, and engaged in the process is essential.

Supervision is most effective when seen as an ongoing journey of learning and growth that extends beyond our time together.

I ask that supervision time is protected as a professional priority, and that you maintain your own records of key learning points, discussions, and CPD evidence.

Confidentiality and Professional Boundaries

Everything discussed in our sessions remains confidential. I aim to build a space where your perspectives are valued and trust can grow.

My role is to guide and support reflective thinking, rather than provide prescriptive answers, unless you specifically request direct guidance.

Our relationship will be shaped by mutual respect, integrity, and a commitment to your professional development.
